PSX Closing Bell: A Dip in the Tide

July 21, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 138,217.58, showing a decrease of 379.78 points or 0.27%.

During the day, the index fluctuated within a range of 1,051.59 points, hitting an intraday high of 139,201.15 (+603.79) and a low of 138,149.56 (-447.80).

Trading volume on the KSE-100 Index reached 221.76 million shares.

The 135,000 level serves as the initial support for the KSE-100 index, backed by strong corporate earnings and consistent foreign inflows, Ali Najib, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Limited told Mettis Global.

If this level is breached, the index may drift toward the 132,000 mark, where compelling valuations and expectations of monetary easing could help revive investor sentiment and reignite buying interest, he added.

 

Of the 100 index companies 43 closed up, 55 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were YOUW (-3.54%), POML (-2.98%), PKGP (-2.83%), ILP (-2.34%), and GADT (-2.18%).

On the other hand, top gainers were AGL (+9.46%), PABC (+5.47%), UPFL (+4.03%), HCAR (+2.90%), and PGLC (+2.55%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were FFC (-197.83pts), UBL (-116.04pts), OGDC (-45.29pts), SYS (-39.86pts), and HUBC (-38.86pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were HBL (+92.98pts), EFERT (+33.35pts), PABC (+25.65pts), LCI (+20.87pts), and PSO (+17.50pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Fertilizer (-144.50pts), Commercial Banks (-71.20pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-61.92pts), Technology & Communication (-59.28pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-53.40pts).

While the index was supported by Automobile Assembler (+33.61pts), Pharmaceuticals (+27.90pts), Miscellaneous (+24.28pts), Chemical (+20.87pts), and Food & Personal Care Products (+17.15pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 85,223.89 with a net loss of 62.26 points or 0.07%.

Total market volume was 608.19 million shares compared to 609.44m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs23.52 billion showing a decrease of Rs8.10bn.

There were 311,474 trades reported in 479 companies with 193 closing up, 245 closing down, and 41 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 12,590 points or 10.02% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 23,091 points or 20.06% so far this calendar year.
