PM prioritizes ML-1, ML-3 completion

June 04, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed authorities to expedite work on key railway infrastructure projects, including the ML-1, ML-3 and Thar Coal Rail Project, stressing the need for stronger coordination between the federal and provincial governments to ensure their timely completion.

Chairing a review meeting on the performance and development plans of Pakistan Railways in Islamabad, the prime minister said the swift execution of strategic rail projects would help contain construction costs, improve connectivity and prevent wastage of public resources, according to Radio Pakistan.

He assured participants that sufficient funds for major railway development schemes would be provided in the upcoming federal budget, reaffirming the government's commitment to modernizing the country's rail network.

The premier emphasized that all ongoing projects must adhere to international standards while maintaining transparency, efficient administration and effective project management throughout their execution.

Highlighting the importance of the freight segment, he said expanding freight services should remain a central focus of Pakistan Railways' future strategy, noting that a modern and efficient cargo network would facilitate industrial and commercial activity while enhancing the organization's revenue generation capacity.

Shehbaz Sharif also instructed relevant authorities to finalize financial and institutional arrangements for all ongoing railway projects in advance, saying that proactive planning was essential to avoid delays and ensure uninterrupted progress on critical infrastructure initiatives.
