August 18, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz
Sharif has directed the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to pay
special attention to providing citizens with easy, efficient and modern digital
services.
The Prime Minister issued these directives while
chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Monday to review ongoing reforms in the NITB
and progress on the construction of Islamabad Technology Park, said a press
release issued.
The Prime Minister directed all relevant institutions to
work in a coordinated manner to ensure timely, transparent and convenient
digital services for the people, maintaining that facilitating citizens in
obtaining government services remained a key priority of the government.
He directed that all government digital platforms be
further upgraded in line with contemporary requirements.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that the shift of federal
ministries to the e-office system was among the most significant reforms
undertaken in the field of IT and digitalization, and directed that its use be
extended across all subordinate departments and state-owned enterprises of the
federal government.
He also called for expediting the digitalization of
government institutions and making maximum use of modern technologies,
directing that digitization of records of all government properties be
completed at the earliest.
Expressing displeasure over the delay in completing the
Islamabad Technology Park, the Prime Minister directed that its construction be
finished at the earliest and the facility made operational on a priority basis.
He further directed that operation of the Technology
Park be completely outsourced.
The meeting was informed that the NITB has already been
right-sized, with appointments to key positions being made in a transparent
manner.
It was also apprised that all federal ministries have
been shifted to the e-office system, while efforts are underway to promote its
adoption in other departments and state-owned enterprises.
Participants were also briefed on the progress of
construction of the Islamabad Technology Park.
