PM calls for minimizing human intervention in tax collection

June 05, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the need for a modern, automated tax management system to promote transparency, boost public confidence, and increase revenues.

He directed that a pilot project for automated income tax collection be launched from Islamabad.

Shehbaz Sharif made these remarks while chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review ongoing reforms at the Federal Board of Revenue, said a press release issued.

He said minimizing human intervention and discretionary powers in tax collection was the need of the hour.

He added that an automated system would prove to be a milestone in the government's reform agenda.

The Prime Minister also appreciated provincial governments for their effective action against illegal cigarettes.

The meeting was briefed that the proposed new tax system can identify under-reported income and assets through data on properties, vehicles, and banks.

A comprehensive plan to make inland revenue collections more effective and transparent was also presented.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that FBR reforms would continue to expand the tax net.
