PM Shehbaz, Prince Rahim Aga Khan reaffirm commitment to Pakistan-AKDN partnership

September 25, 2026 (MLN): The government reaffirmed its desire to deepen collaboration with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), seeking to fully harness the potential for expanded cooperation in financial inclusion, tourism promotion, cultural preservation and community-led economic empowerment to advance sustainable and inclusive development in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conveyed this during a meeting with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session in New York, according to a press release issued.

The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for the Prince's commitment to sustaining Pakistan's longstanding friendly and positive relations, and reaffirmed his desire to continue working closely with him towards the shared objectives of peace, stability and development.

He particularly acknowledged the Ismaili community's longstanding contributions to Pakistan's socioeconomic development, as well as the valuable contributions of AKDN-affiliated institutions in the country.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan, in turn, appreciated the Prime Minister's warm sentiments and lauded his efforts for regional peace and stability at a time when the region remained engulfed by conflict.

He reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and AKDN, and expressed his desire to continue and expand cooperation in human development initiatives, particularly healthcare, education, climate resilience and sustainable socioeconomic development, for the benefit of the people of Pakistan.
