PKR strengthens marginally against greenback

August 24, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar in Monday's interbank trading, appreciating by 0.89 paisa to close at Rs277.55 per dollar, compared with the previous session's closing rate of Rs277.56.

During the session, the local currency traded between an intraday high of Rs277.65 and a low of Rs277.55 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at Rs278.00 for buying and Rs278.60 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee strengthened by 87.08 paisa, or 0.27%, against the euro to settle at Rs323.69, compared with Rs324.57 in the previous session.

The local unit also gained 31.75 paisa, or 0.08%, against the British pound, closing at Rs378.26 versus Rs378.58 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss franc, the rupee appreciated by Rs1.09, or 0.31%, to close at Rs345.75.

Similarly, the Pakistani rupee gained 0.50 paisa, or 0.29%, against the Japanese yen, settling at Rs1.7425 compared with Rs1.7475 in the previous session.

The local currency also advanced by 1.98 paisa, or 0.05%, against the Chinese yuan to close at Rs41.28, against Rs41.30 previously.

However, the rupee slipped by 0.05 paisa against the Saudi riyal to settle at Rs73.92, while it gained 0.86 paisa, against the UAE dirham to close at Rs75.57.

So far in the current fiscal year, the Pakistani rupee has appreciated by 60.99 paisa, or 0.22%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.57, reflecting an appreciation of 0.93%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates edged up by one basis point each to 11.56% and 11.81%, respectively.
