PKR posts marginal gain against USD

October 30, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday, settling at PKR 276.75 per dollar compared to the previous close of PKR 276.76.

During the trading session, the local currency recorded an intraday high bid of PKR 276.80 and a low ask of PKR 276.70.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 279.75 for selling.

However, the rupee weakened against several major international currencies.

Against the euro, the local currency depreciated by Rs1.51, or 0.49%, to close at PKR 309.80, compared to the previous close of PKR 308.28.

The rupee also lost Rs2.74, or 0.74%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 371.19 versus PKR 368.45 a day earlier.

Similarly, the local unit declined by Rs2.94, or 0.88%, against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 337.11.

Against the Japanese yen, the rupee weakened by 0.36% to settle at PKR 1.7592, compared to PKR 1.7529 in the previous session.

The local currency also depreciated by 3.60 paisa, or 0.09%, against the Chinese yuan, closing at PKR 41.58 compared to PKR 41.55 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened against regional currencies. It gained 0.65 paisa against the Saudi riyal to settle at PKR 73.75 and appreciated by 0.98 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at PKR 75.35.

During the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by Rs1.41, or 0.51%, against the US dollar. Its gain against the greenback has reached Rs3.37, or 1.22%, so far in the current calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) increased by 2 basis points, with the bid rate rising to 12.41% and the offer rate reaching 12.66%.
