PKR edges up 3 paisa against USD

June 17, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, appreciating by 2.98 paisa to close at PKR 278.27 per dollar, compared with the previous day's closing level of PKR 278.30.

During trading hours, the local currency touched an intraday high of PKR 278.35 and a low of PKR 278.25 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.50 for buying and PKR 279.35 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed a mixed performance. It lost 22.98 paisa versus the Euro, ending the session at PKR 322.96 compared to PKR 322.73 a day earlier.

The local unit also edged lower against the British Pound, closing at PKR 373.37 against the previous close of PKR 373.36.

Against the Swiss Franc, the rupee registered a notable decline of PKR 1.67, settling at PKR 351.73.

The rupee weakened by 0.07 paisa against the Japanese Yen to PKR 1.7374, compared with PKR 1.7367 in the previous session.

Similarly, it slipped marginally against the Chinese Yuan, ending at PKR 41.18.

In contrast, the domestic currency gained ground against Gulf currencies, appreciating by 1.39 paisa versus the Saudi Riyal to PKR 74.15 and by 0.20 paisa against the UAE Dirham to PKR 75.77.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 5.49, or 1.97%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, it has strengthened by PKR 1.85, reflecting a gain of 0.66%.

Meanwhile, activity in the money market remained stable, with the six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates holding unchanged at 11.94% and 12.19%, respectively.
