PKR edges higher against USD, settles at PKR 277.6

August 17, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened by 2.94 paisa against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank trading, settling at PKR 277.62 compared with the previous close of PKR 277.65.

During the session, the rupee traded between an intraday high of 277.85 and a low of 277.60.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.50 for buying and PKR 278.65 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee weakened by PKR 2.45, or 0.77%, against the euro to close at PKR 322.43. It also declined by PKR 2.46, or 0.66%, against the British pound to PKR 376.72.

The local currency lost PKR 2.35, or 0.69%, against the Swiss franc, closing at PKR 343.89, while its value against the Japanese yen fell by 0.46 paisa, or 0.26%, to PKR 1.7467.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee depreciated by 3.87 paisa, or 0.09%, to close at PKR 41.20.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained 0.59 paisa against both the Saudi riyal and UAE dirham, closing at PKR 73.94 and PKR 75.59, respectively.

During the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by 53.86 paisa, or 0.19%, against the US dollar, while its calendar-year appreciation stands at PKR 2.50, or 0.90%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 11.50% and 11.75%, respectively.
