PKR continues positive run against USD

August 27, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session, appreciating by 0.82 paisa to close at PKR 277.51 per dollar, compared with the previous closing of PKR 277.52.

During the trading session, the local currency moved within a range of PKR 277.50 to PKR 277.60 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.00 for buying and PKR 278.60 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee appreciated by 23.15 paisa, or 0.07%, against the Euro to settle at PKR 323.36, compared with PKR 323.59 in the previous session.

The local unit also gained Rs1.37, or 0.36%, against the British Pound, closing at PKR 377.05 from PKR 378.42 a day earlier.

Similarly, the rupee strengthened by 97.39 paisa, or 0.28%, against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 344.29.

However, the local currency lost 0.15 paisa, or 0.09%, against the Japanese Yen, settling at PKR 1.7418 compared with PKR 1.7403 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee weakened by 1.78 paisa, or 0.04%, to close at PKR 41.30, compared with PKR 41.28 previously.

Meanwhile, PKR appreciated by 0.22 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 73.91, while it gained 0.84 paisa against the UAE Dirham, settling at PKR 75.56.

So far in the current fiscal year, the Pakistani rupee has gained 64.68 paisa, or 0.23%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has appreciated by Rs2.61, reflecting a gain of 0.94%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates edged down by 1 basis point each to 11.55% and 11.80%, respectively.
