PKR charts a steady course against the USD

February 26, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) edged up slightly against the US dollar in Thursday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 1.10 paisa to close at 279.50 per dollar, compared with the previous session’s closing of 279.51.

During the session, the currency recorded an intraday high (bid) of 279.55 and a low (ask) of 279.50.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the greenback at 279.80 for buying and 280.55 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed mixed performance. It depreciated by 21.07 paisa, or 0.06%, versus the Euro to settle at 330.02, compared with 329.81 a day earlier.

The local unit also weakened by 32.05 paisa, or 0.08%, against the British Pound to close at 378.40, down from 378.08 in the previous session.

Similarly, the rupee lost 24.33 paisa, or 0.07%, against the Swiss Franc, ending at 361.84. In contrast, it gained 0.18 paisa, or 0.10%, against the Japanese Yen, finishing at 1.7904 compared to 1.7922 previously.

The currency slipped 15.67 paisa, or 0.38%, against the Chinese Yuan to close at 40.86, versus 40.70 a day earlier. It also depreciated by 1.69 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi Riyal to settle at 74.52.

However, the rupee appreciated slightly by 0.40 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE Dirham, ending the session at 76.10.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by 4.26 against the US dollar, showing a gain of 1.53%. On a calendar-year basis, it has advanced by 62.12 paisa, or 0.22%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates rose by 1 basis point each to 10.35% and 10.60%, respectively.
