June 02, 2026 (MLN):  Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) posted a 23% year-on-year (YoY) decline in May 2026, with total offtake falling to 1.17 million tons (mt) from 1.53mt in May 2025.

On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, volumes also slipped 14% from April's 1.36mt, according to data compiled by Arif Habib Limited.

The contraction was driven by elevated Motor Spirit (MS) and High Speed Diesel (HSD) prices, compounded by slower economic activity during the Eid holiday period.

The sharp drop in Furnace Oil (FO) volumes was attributed to a higher RLNG and hydel mix in the energy supply stack.

Despite the monthly setback, cumulative eleven-month fiscal year 2026 (11MFY26) volumes reached 14.93mt, a 1% improvement over the same period last year.

Product-wise Performance

Motor Spirit (MS) recorded 0.62mt in May, down 12% YoY from 0.70mt in May 2025 and flat MoM from April's 0.61mt. Cumulative 11MFY26 MS volumes stood at 7.03mt, up 2% over the prior year period.

High Speed Diesel (HSD) volumes came in at 0.45mt in May, declining 32% YoY from 0.67mt and 17% MoM from April's 0.55mt. On a cumulative basis, 11MFY26 HSD volumes reached 6.35mt, up 1% YoY.

Furnace Oil (FO) volumes collapsed to 0.03mt in May, down 64% YoY from 0.08mt in May 2025 and 79% MoM from April's 0.14mt. On a cumulative basis, 11MFY26 FO volumes of 0.56mt remained 17% below the prior year period.
