Naltar Phase-III to add 16MW to Gilgit Power Grid

September 14, 2026 (MLN): Gilgit-Baltistan Chief
Minister Amjad Hussain has directed authorities to expedite completion of the
Naltar Phase-III Hydropower Project in Gilgit.
Chairing a review meeting, the chief minister said the
project would add 16 megawatts of electricity to the grid upon completion,
said a press release issued.
The additional generation capacity is expected to help
address electricity shortages in Gilgit city and surrounding areas.
The chief minister directed relevant authorities to
ensure the early completion of the project.
The Naltar project is part of efforts to expand local
hydropower generation and improve electricity availability in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized
that promoting clean, affordable and sustainable energy through solar
power remains a key pillar of the country's national energy policy.
He made these remarks while chairing a high-level
meeting in Islamabad to review progress on Gilgit-Baltistan's 100
megawatt solar power project.
