June 15, 2026 (MLN): The National Tariff Commission (NTC) and Pakistan Single Window (PSW) have entered into an agreement aimed at automating and digitizing key tariff and trade-related functions, as part of efforts to modernize Pakistan’s trade policy framework.
The agreement was signed by NTC Chairman Dr. Jawwad Uwais
Agha and PSW Chief Executive Officer Syed Aftab Haider during a ceremony
attended by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Technical Advisor to
the Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Saeed, Secretary Commerce Jawad Paul, FBR
Member Customs Operations Syed Shakeel Shah, and senior officials from both
organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, the commerce minister highlighted
the importance of digital transformation in strengthening trade institutions,
noting that modernizing the NTC would support economic growth and help align
Pakistan’s trade defense system with international standards.
Under the collaboration, both entities will work on
improving data exchange and digitizing NTC’s operations related to tariff and
trade policy analysis, tariff rationalization, and trade remedy measures.
The initiative is also expected to shorten processing times
for cases involving anti-dumping, countervailing, and safeguard duties,
according to APP.
Dr. Agha said the initiative represents a significant step
toward enhancing institutional efficiency, improving the accuracy of
investigations, and promoting greater transparency in trade-related
decision-making through the Commission’s Tariff Policy Centre.
PSW CEO Syed Aftab Haider said integrating NTC’s tariff
functions into the PSW digital ecosystem would strengthen institutional
coordination and enable better use of real-time trade data.
The agreement underscores the commitment of both
organizations to building a more transparent, predictable, and competitive
trade environment for domestic industries.
