September 17, 2025 (MLN): The Ministry of Commerce is taking a proactive approach to address the concerns of Pakistan's manufacturing industries as the country prepares for a new trade liberalization policy set to begin in Fiscal Year 2026.

This comes after a recent meeting between the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Mr. Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, and the CEO of Lucky Motor Corporation.

During the meeting, representatives from Lucky Motor Corporation voiced the need for government consultations with domestic auto manufacturers to protect the local industry from potential negative impacts of the new policy.

They also emphasized the importance of developing and promoting policies for hybrid and electric vehicles.

In addition, the Lucky Motor Corporation representatives raised concerns about the perceived dumping of used mobile phones in Pakistan.

In response, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister acknowledged that tariff liberalization under the IMF program is an economic necessity.

However, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to creating a favorable environment for local manufacturing, including the automotive and mobile phone sectors.

Mr. Afzal Khan assured the Lucky Motor Corporation representatives that the government will facilitate the development of an ideal policy framework that balances the protection of domestic industries with the demands of trade liberalization.

This meeting highlights the Ministry of Commerce’s commitment to providing a balanced and supportive trade framework for Pakistani industries.
