October 22, 2026 (MLN): Meezan Bank Limited (PSX: MEBL) reported a 6%
increase in its consolidated net profit for the nine months ended September
30, 2026 (9MCY26), reaching Rs74.65bn compared to Rs70.52bn
in the corresponding period last year.
Alongside the financial results, the board declared an interim cash
dividend for the of Rs8 per share.
Reflecting this bottom-line growth, basic earnings per share (EPS)
expanded to Rs41.02 (diluted EPS of Rs40.78), up from basic EPS
of Rs38.59 (diluted EPS of Rs38.36) in 9MCY25.
For the third quarter (Q3CY26) alone, net profit increased 11% to
Rs26.01bn (basic EPS of Rs14.34) compared to Rs23.38bn (basic EPS of
Rs12.65) in Q3CY25.
The primary catalyst supporting the nine-month performance was a 5%
expansion in net profit/return earned alongside a 19% surge in
non-funded income.
Total profit/return earned on Islamic financing and placements grew 13%
to Rs353.04bn. After expensing profit on deposits of Rs155.32bn,
net profit/return settled at Rs197.72bn compared to Rs188.21bn in
9MCY25.
On the fee and non-funded income front, fee and commission income rose
20% to Rs26.14bn, foreign exchange income jumped 19% to Rs7.15bn,
and gain on securities expanded 15% to Rs1.18bn. Total other income
reached Rs36.09bn, driving total income up 7% to Rs233.81bn.
On the operational side, operating expenses rose 17% to Rs72.12bn,
bringing total other expenses to Rs75.56bn.
Profit before credit loss allowance rose 1% to Rs157.90bn, further
supported by a significant 98% reduction in net credit loss provisioning
(Rs65.62m down from Rs3.63bn in 9MCY25).
This offset a negative swing in share of profit from associates (a loss
of Rs346.37m), pushing pre-tax profit up 3% to Rs157.83bn.
The bank absorbed a corporate tax charge of Rs83.18bn for the
period (up 1% from Rs82.18bn in 9MCY25). Backed by strong Islamic financing
returns, non-funded income expansion, and lower provision charges, Meezan Bank
Limited securely closed the nine-month period with its net profit reaching Rs74.65bn.
