June 11, 2025 (MLN): Journalists boycotted the media briefing of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, citing the absence of a dedicated press briefing on the Finance Bill and the government’s upcoming tax measures and economic policies.

The protest stemmed from the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) failure to provide the customary technical briefing on the Finance Bill 2025–26, which is traditionally held to clarify tax proposals for accurate media reporting.

In response to the walkout, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar acknowledged the journalists’ concerns, calling them “absolutely valid” and affirming their right to protest.

Addressing the press, he extended an apology and assured that the FBR chairman had committed to holding the delayed technical session.

“I will speak to them; the technical briefing must take place,” Tarar said, noting that he joined the journalists in solidarity.

Following Tarar’s apology and assurance, the journalists ended their boycott and resumed coverage of the press conference.
