Ishaq Dar strengthens diplomatic outreach at UNSC

May 29, 2026 (MLN): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a series of high-level diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Open Briefing in New York, meeting with Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, while also announcing an official visit to Washington, D.C.
During his meeting with Petr Macinka, the two leaders
expressed satisfaction over the increasingly substantive cooperation between
Pakistan and the Czech Republic, according to APP.
Ishaq Dar appreciated the growing momentum in bilateral ties
and highlighted the potential for further expansion of cooperation in trade,
investment, science and technology, education, and people-to-people contacts.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global
issues and agreed to intensify high-level contacts and further strengthen
bilateral cooperation.
In a separate meeting in New York, Ishaq Dar met Chinese
Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The two leaders exchanged views on recent regional
developments and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue and
diplomacy aimed at promoting sustained peace and stability in the region and
beyond.
Wang Yi reiterated appreciation and support for Pakistan’s
constructive role.
The two sides also recalled the successful recent visit of
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation to China, as well as the 75th
anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, emphasizing
the long-standing friendship and strategic cooperation between the two
countries.
Ishaq Dar attended the UNSC Open Debate on “Maintenance of
International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the
UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System” at the
invitation of Wang Yi.
The debate was held on May 26 under China’s presidency of
the Security Council.
Following the conclusion of his engagements at the United
Nations Security Council and other meetings in New York, the Deputy Prime
Minister/Foreign Minister will depart for an official visit to Washington, D.C.
on Friday.
During the visit, he will meet with United States Secretary
of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio to review bilateral
relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual
interest.
The discussions will also focus on strengthening cooperation
in key priority sectors, as well as Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional
peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to further
deepening its longstanding and broad-based partnership with the United States.
Following the completion of his official engagements in
Washington, D.C., the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister will depart for
Islamabad later the same day.
