August 19, 2026 (MLN): Hutchison Ports Pakistan, the country’s only deep-water container terminal, is set to invest $76 million during 2026 and 2027 to upgrade its operations and strengthen cargo-handling capacity.

The investment program includes two electric remote-controlled Quay Cranes (QCs), 17 electric remote-controlled Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes (RTGCs), 70 e-trucks, and 50 trailers.

The terminal has already received its first batch of 20 e-trucks, 10 trailers, a reach stacker, and an empty handler in 2026 to support faster and more efficient operations.

With the latest investment, cumulative investment in Hutchison Ports Pakistan is expected to exceed $690 million by the end of 2026. The modernization program is aimed at expanding capacity, improving productivity, and strengthening the terminal’s role as a key maritime gateway for Pakistan and the region.

The electrification of the terminal’s equipment will also support Hutchison Ports Group’s sustainability objectives by reducing emissions across port operations and contributing to the decarbonization of Pakistan’s supply chain.

Hutchison Ports Pakistan CEO CS Kim said the company remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s economic growth and strengthening its maritime sector.

He added that the company is working with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Karachi Port Trust, and the government to support the vision of developing Pakistan into a major transshipment hub through technology-driven port operations.

As part of the wider upgrade program, Hutchison Ports Pakistan has also submitted a proposal to the government seeking additional land for a Centralized Examination Area.

The proposed facility is intended to improve cargo examination and clearance processes while supporting the development of a high-capacity logistics hub and enhancing trade efficiency.
