Govt working to build structured digital assets ecosystem

September 01, 2026 (MLN): The government is working to build a
responsible, transparent, and well-structured digital assets ecosystem that
supports innovation while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
Chairman, Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority
(PVARA), Bilal Bin Saqib, called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and briefed him on his recent visit to Hong Kong,
where he held constructive engagements with policymakers and institutions
including the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Hong Kong
Monetary Authority, and the Securities and Futures Commission.
The discussions centred on knowledge-sharing and
successful use cases relevant to Pakistan, according to a press release issued.
The discussion focused on emerging opportunities in the
virtual assets and digital finance space, including the potential application
of blockchain and tokenization technologies in financial markets.
The meeting also touched upon international practices
relating to digital assets, stablecoins, compliance frameworks, and digital
financial infrastructure.
The PVARA Chairman shared key insights and use cases
from the Hong Kong engagement, highlighting their relevance and potential
applicability to Pakistan's virtual assets landscape, along with perspectives
on digital financial products, tokenization, and possible areas for
institutional cooperation.
The finance minister welcomed the briefing and
reiterated the importance of a well-structured digital assets framework, while
Senator Aurangzeb appreciated the efforts made to engage with international
policymakers and stressed the need to build on these engagements to identify
practical use cases and opportunities that can advance Pakistan's digital
financial ecosystem.
