August 18, 2025 (MLN): The government made efforts at the national level to deal with the flood situation in different parts of the country and confirmed that six hundred and seventy people had so far died and one thousand others injured due to rains, floods, and landsliding.

Addressing a press briefing in Islamabad, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, accompanied by Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider, said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the flood situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The meeting also assessed the progress of ongoing rescue and relief operations.

The ministers emphasized that coordination with provincial governments is being ensured.

NDMA has been providing data to relevant authorities through its early warning system and remains in constant contact with provincial governments on the Prime Minister’s instructions.

Relief operations are under way in affected areas, as per the press release issued.

Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik assured that victims would be compensated for their losses.

He also urged provincial governments to launch campaigns for the permanent resettlement of people living near rivers and nullahs in mountainous regions to safer locations.

NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik noted that over four hundred and twenty relief camps have been set up in flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

He added that two to three additional spells of monsoon are expected, with the current spell lasting until Friday, while conditions are likely to normalize by the end of September.

He stressed that the government’s top priority is to rescue people and move them to safer places.

An assessment of damages caused by the floods will be undertaken once the monsoon season ends.
