October 16, 2025 (MLN): The federal government has reduced petroleum product prices for the next fortnight, cutting the price of petrol by Rs5.66 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.39 per litre, according to a notification issued by the Finance Division late Wednesday.
Following the revision, the price of petrol has been reduced to Rs263.02 per litre from Rs268.68, while HSD will now be available at Rs275.41 per litre compared to Rs276.81.
The prices of superior kerosene oil (SKO) and light diesel oil (LDO) have also been revised downward. SKO has decreased by Rs3.26 to Rs181.71 per litre, from Rs184.97, whereas LDO has declined by Rs2.74 to Rs162.76 per litre, from Rs165.50.
The Government has adjusted the prices of petroleum products for the fortnight starting tomorrow (October 16, 2025), based on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the relevant Ministries.

The Finance Division stated that the new rates were determined based on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries.
Petrol prices directly affect middle- and lower-income households, while diesel prices play a key role in determining inflation trends, as they power heavy transport, agricultural machinery, and trains.
Although the general sales tax (GST) remains zero on all petroleum products, the government continues to collect Rs79.50 per litre on diesel and Rs80.52 per litre on petrol and high-octane products under the petroleum levy and climate support levy, including Rs2.50 per litre as Climate Support Levy (CSL).
Additionally, customs duty of Rs17–18 per litre is imposed on both petrol and HSD, irrespective of local production or imports. Oil companies and dealers also receive around Rs17 per litre in distribution and sales margins.
The revised prices have taken effect from October 16, 2025.
