Govt sets Nov 30 deadline to reopen flood-hit M-5

November 19, 2025 (MLN): One-way traffic on the flood-damaged M-5 Motorway must be restored by 30 November, the federal government has directed, as repair delays continue to disrupt travel and freight movement along the key Multan–Sukkur corridor.

The instruction was issued during an on-site review of rehabilitation works at Jalalpur Pirwala, where authorities were cautioned that substandard repairs or missed deadlines would not be accepted.

During the inspection, officials were told to submit a detailed progress report within a week, with a follow-up visit planned to assess compliance. Poor maintenance of rest houses and roadside facilities also came under scrutiny, as unclean washrooms and inadequately stocked tuck shops were flagged as evidence of negligence.

NHA teams briefed the visiting authorities on the status of ongoing restoration and pledged round-the-clock work to reopen the route fully, which remains critical for long-haul passenger travel and cargo transport in southern Punjab.
