Govt set to consider Rs4.5tr development budget for FY27

June 08, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's National Economic Council (NEC) is set to consider a Rs4.464 trillion national development budget for fiscal year 2026-27.

The meeting, to be chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will be attended by all four provincial chief ministers and finance ministers, as well as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, at a meeting scheduled for Today, finance ministry sources said.

The federal government is expected to present a development outlay of Rs1.32tr, while provincial development programmes are projected to total Rs3.138tr.

Punjab has been allocated the largest provincial share at Rs1.45tr, followed by Sindh at Rs816bn, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Rs564bn and Balochistan at Rs308bn.

The NEC, the country's highest constitutional body for economic planning and development, is expected to review and endorse key macroeconomic and development priorities for the coming fiscal year ahead of the federal budget announcement.

Development spending is expected to focus on infrastructure, energy, water resources and social sector projects.

Finance ministry sources said final allocations may be adjusted before formal approval by the council.
