Govt raises petrol, diesel prices

November 1, 2025 (MLN): The federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next fortnight, in line with movements in international oil markets and recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs2.43 per litre to Rs265.45, while HSD will now cost Rs278.44 per litre, up Rs3.02 from the previous rate.

Petrol is primarily consumed by private vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws, directly impacting middle- and lower-income groups.

Meanwhile, HSD remains the most inflationary fuel as it powers heavy transport, trains, and agricultural machinery such as tractors, tube wells, and threshers, influencing overall commodity and food prices.

In contrast, OGRA announced a Rs5.88 per kilogram (2.83%) reduction in the consumer price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), bringing it down to Rs201.60 per kg from Rs207.49.

Accordingly, the price of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder has been set at Rs2,378.89 for November, reflecting a decrease of Rs69.44.

The government currently collects around Rs99 per litre on both petrol and diesel through petroleum and climate support levies, while general sales tax (GST) remains at zero.

Additionally, customs duties of Rs17–18 per litre are applicable, along with around Rs17 per litre in margins for oil companies and dealers.
