Govt pushes for lower cargo handling costs at AD Ports terminals

January 29, 2026 (MLN): The government has urged AD Ports Group to rationalize terminal cargo handling charges to make port operations more business-friendly and competitive.

The call was made by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry during a meeting with an AD Ports Group delegation at his office, where ongoing projects at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) were reviewed.

The delegation was led by Regional CEO Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi and included senior officials from the group and its local terminal operators, according to a press release issued.

The minister also emphasized expediting the procurement of mechanization and digitization equipment, including cranes and loaders, to improve efficiency at KGTL and KGTML terminals.

In response, AD Ports Group agreed to review the existing cargo handling charges, and a negotiation committee was constituted for the purpose.

The committee, comprising Chairman Karachi Port Trust Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed (Retd) and the country representative of AD Ports Group, will submit its recommendations within seven days.
