May 14, 2026 (MLN): Efforts to strengthen local manufacturing and align upcoming industrial policies with economic growth objectives gained momentum as discussions were held on the federal budget, auto policy, tractor policy, and industrial development.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries
and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan met with officials of Millat Tractors on
Thursday, where both sides reviewed measures aimed at promoting local industry
and enhancing manufacturing capacity.
Haroon Akhtar said the government is taking practical steps
to strengthen domestic industry in line with the vision of Prime Minister
Shehbaz Sharif.
He added that industrial development is being accelerated to
support economic revival and sustainable growth, according to APP.
During the meeting, the SAPM said the upcoming tractor
policy is being designed to remain both farmer-friendly and industry-friendly,
with the objective of supporting the agricultural sector while boosting local
industrial capacity.
He further stated that the upcoming auto policy will focus
on promoting local production, encouraging investment, and advancing technology
within Pakistan’s manufacturing sector.
Haroon Akhtar emphasized that export growth remains
essential for economic stability and long-term national development, noting
that the promotion of local manufacturing would help generate employment
opportunities, attract investment, and support export expansion.
He also said the government is continuing reforms aimed at
modernizing the industrial sector and improving competitiveness, while
reaffirming that equal importance is being given to both the industrial and
agricultural sectors to ensure balanced and inclusive economic development.
