August 28, 2026 (MLN): The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has initiated the process to withdraw the Pakistan Telecommunications (Re-organisation) Amendment Bill 2026 from the Senate as the legislation nears the end of its stipulated 90-day period.

The ministry noted that once the prescribed period expires, the Bill would move to a joint sitting of Parliament. However, the timing of such a sitting remains uncertain, which could delay further progress on the proposed legislation.

To prevent procedural delays, MoITT has opted to withdraw the existing Bill and introduce a fresh version before Parliament, according to the press release.

The ministry said the new legislation will retain the core substance of the proposed amendments while providing a more timely route for completing the legislative process.
