May 14, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani government has absorbed billions of rupees in petroleum-related costs to ease the burden on consumers, while introducing weekly fuel price reviews and targeted subsidies for motorcycle users and public transport operators.

Officials say fuel availability has remained stable with no major shortages, despite recent price increases driven by global and regional pressures, including conflict-related factors.

The government's pricing mechanism remains tied to international agreements and IMF commitments, but authorities say maximum possible relief is being provided within fiscal limits, APP reported.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Petroleum Division, Mian Khan Bugti, made these remarks in the National Assembly on Thursday while responding to a calling attention notice on the recent rise in petroleum product prices.

He noted that fuel price revisions have been shifted from a fortnightly to a weekly review cycle to allow closer monitoring of international market movements.

Mian Khan Bugti also cited international comparisons to argue that Pakistan is not alone in facing elevated fuel costs, and urged citizens to cooperate with government guidelines, including motorway speed limits, stressing that managing the challenge requires a joint effort between the public and the state.
