Govt engages Daraz, Alibaba in FY27 Budget stakeholder consultations

(MLN): Pakistan's government held a pre-budget consultative meeting with
representatives of Daraz and Alibaba Group, with a focus on the e-commerce
sector's regulatory environment.
Business
facilitation, compliance mechanisms, and digital commerce development were also
part of the agenda ahead of the Federal Budget FY2026-27.
Minister of
State for Finance and Revenue Bilal Azhar Kayani chaired the session at the
Ministry of Finance, attended by Ben Yi, Daraz Group Chief Commercial Officer,
Kamran Pervaiz, Director Corporate Affairs, and Umar Usmani, Director
Government Affairs, alongside senior Ministry officials including
representatives from the Tax Policy Office.
The delegation
presented its perspectives and proposals on the evolving e-commerce landscape
in Pakistan, said a press release issued.
The perspective covered
the role of digital platforms in promoting entrepreneurship, expanding market
access, strengthening economic documentation, and supporting the country's
broader digital transformation agenda.
Bilal Kayani emphasized
that all proposals under consideration for the upcoming budget are being
examined against the government's broader fiscal and economic priorities,
reiterating its commitment to a balanced policy framework.
The framework would supports economic
activity, encourages investment and innovation, and promotes sustainable
growth.
The minister
appreciated the delegation's input and emphasized the importance of continued
stakeholder engagement in the policy formulation process, reaffirming the
government's commitment to a consultative and inclusive approach to
decision-making.
The meeting
concluded with a shared understanding on the need for sustained collaboration
between the government and the private sector to strengthen Pakistan's digital
economy, improve the business environment, and contribute to long-term economic
development.
