Govt allocates Rs67bn for clean energy in budget FY26

June 10, 2025 (MLN): In a strategic move to address climate change and transition towards sustainable energy, the federal government has allocated Rs67.2 billion for clean, renewable, and hydropower projects in the Budget 2025–26.

The Finance Minister announced that a significant portion of this allocation will be directed towards renewable energy initiatives, including Rs20bn for the 2,160 MW Dasu Hydropower Project Phase-1 and Rs35.7bn for the Mohmand Hydropower Project.

Additionally, Rs3bn will be designated for five hydropower schemes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

Prioritizing water conservation, the government has earmarked Rs133bn for water resource development, including Rs32.7bn for the Diamer Basha Dam and Rs4.4bn for the installation of a telemetry system on the Indus Basin.

These measures aim to enhance water management and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

By reinforcing hydropower and water conservation efforts, the budget underscores Pakistan's commitment to environmental sustainability and long-term climate resilience.
