Govt to formulate National Resilience Plan 2025–2026 to tackle natural disasters

September 25, 2025 (MLN): The Government of Pakistan is formulating the National Resilience Plan 2025–2026 to strengthen preparedness for the 2026 monsoon season and minimize the devastation caused by natural disasters.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, chaired a meeting with Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, to finalize strategies under the plan, said a press release issued today.

Dr. Malik stressed that the framework must be outcome-focused, with clear strategies to reduce losses of human lives, infrastructure, crops, and livestock.

He highlighted the need for a robust mechanism that delivers tangible results for vulnerable communities.

Chairman NDMA emphasized mapping vulnerable regions across Pakistan and tailoring preparedness and response to localized risks such as floods, cloudbursts, glacial melt, GLOFs, and landslides.

The Minister further observed that the current disaster response system is fragmented and called for its integration into a single, streamlined, and effective framework.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with NDMA and all stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive disaster management strategy.
