Finance Minister calls for simplified access to global climate finance

September 23, 2026 (MLN): Climate resilience must begin with domestic
macroeconomic stability and adequate fiscal and external buffers, with
international support complementing rather than substituting national resources.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator
Muhammad Aurangzeb made these remarks at the UN-hosted Solutions Dialogue on
Climate Finance in New York, said a press release issued.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the
United Nations General Assembly, the Finance Minister highlighted Pakistan's
acute vulnerability to climate change and underlined the government's
responsibility to put in place credible adaptation and disaster-response
frameworks, early-warning systems, climate strategies and a pipeline of
bankable projects.
He outlined Pakistan's diversified financing approach,
which combines domestic resources with support from the World Bank and the
IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility, access to capital markets through
green instruments, and partnerships with private investors.
Senator Aurangzeb also raised concern over the slow
operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund and urged the Green Climate Fund
and other international institutions to simplify their accreditation, approval
and disbursement procedures, so that vulnerable countries could access climate
finance more efficiently.
The climate finance dialogue was among several
engagements the Finance Minister held on the second day of UNGA High-Level
Week, which also included a WEF dialogue on energy security, a meeting with
Boeing Global on PIA's fleet modernization, and talks with Abbott's
Pharmaceuticals Division on Pakistan's Hepatitis C elimination programme.
