FM stresses energy security, solar growth at WEF

September 23, 2026 (MLN): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the growing importance of energy security during a high-level dialogue hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on “Powering Growth in the New Economy” on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The finance minister said the global energy debate has increasingly moved beyond the transition towards renewable sources, with energy security emerging as a more immediate concern amid geopolitical conflicts and disruptions in fuel supplies.

He noted that Pakistan has witnessed a significant expansion in solar energy, driven largely by the private sector, which demonstrates the potential of renewable energy to reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuels.

Muhammad Aurangzeb further stressed that energy supply challenges extend beyond the energy sector, affecting food security and broader economic resilience.
