Fertilizer offtake decreases 4.5% YoY in May

June 17, 2026 (MLN): Fertilizer consumption in Pakistan recorded a mixed performance in May 2026, as overall nutrient offtake declined by 4.5% year-on-year to 299,000 tonnes, according to the Monthly Fertilizer Review released by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

In May, urea offtake stood at 419,000 tonnes, registering a marginal increase of 0.2% compared to the same month last year. DAP consumption, however, decreased sharply by 37.5% to 61,000 tonnes.

Nutrient-wise, nitrogen offtake decreased by 1.1%, phosphate by 17.9% and potash by 15.6%.

Cumulative nutrient offtake during Kharif 2026 (April-May) was 619,000 tonnes, which increased by 15.7% over Kharif 2025. Nitrogen and potash offtake increased by 23.7% and 21.1%, respectively, while phosphate offtake decreased by 11.5%, attributed to high prices.

Total domestic fertilizer production during May 2026 was 803,000 tonnes. Urea and DAP production was 581,000 and 78,000 tonnes, respectively. Production of other products i.e. NP, CAN, SOP and NPKs was 71, 66, 6.1 and 1.1 thousand tonnes, respectively. Imported supplies comprised 0.5 thousand tonnes of MOP.

Regionally, urea offtake during May 2026 increased by 0.1%, 4.4% and 3.3% in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, respectively, while its offtake decreased by 12.9% and 48% in KP and AJK/GB over May last year.

During May 2026, DAP offtake decreased by 42%, 53.2% and 82% in Punjab, KP and Balochistan, respectively, while its offtake increased by 3.1% in Sindh over May previous year.

On the pricing front, all fertilizer products registered year-on-year price increases during the month. Urea (Sona) rose by 1.7% to Rs. 4,613 per 50 kg bag, while urea (other) and CAN increased by 1.4% and 1.7%, respectively.

Prices of DAP, NP, SSP (Granular), SOP and NPKs increased by 5.9%, 6.8%, 11.4%, 10.3% and 4.1%, respectively.

Internationally, urea prices witnessed a downward trend in both China and Middle East during the month under review.
