Ferry Service to launch from Gwadar to key Gulf areas

July18,2025 (MLN): Technical, operational, and financial proposals to launch Ferry Service from Gwadar to key Gulf destinations were reviewed today in a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.

The envisioned routes aim to offer a cost-effective and efficient option for both passenger and cargo transport, and are seen as a vital step toward expanding trade and travel links between Pakistan and the Gulf states.

In a strategic push to advance the initiative, the Minister held a telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Balochistan to discuss the scope and long-term value of the ferry service.

The Chief Minister assured full cooperation from the provincial government, highlighting the significant socio-economic benefits for Balochistan and beyond.

Stressing the wider strategic importance, Minister Junaid Anwar noted that the project could lower freight and travel costs while catalyzing regional trade integration and stimulating maritime activity.

“The ferry service will improve travel ease between Pakistan and Gulf states,” the Minister said. “It can position Gwadar as a vital link in regional connectivity and drive long-term economic development.”

To ensure seamless execution, the meeting concluded with instructions for further evaluations of the submitted proposals.

Authorities were directed to comprehensively address all regulatory, technical, and logistical aspects ahead of the ferry service’s launch.
