FDI surges to Rs315m in August FY27

September 16, 2026 (MLN): Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Pakistan recorded a net inflow of $315.9 million in August FY27, marking an 80.4% year-on-year (YoY) surge compared to $175.1 million reported in August FY26, according to official data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Gross FDI inflows rose by 52.9% YoY to $401.9 million in August FY27 from $262.8 million recorded in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, capital outflows declined slightly by 1.8% YoY to $86.1 million, down from $87.7 million in August FY26.

Bolstered by the surge in direct investments, total foreign private investment registered a growth of 120.6% YoY to reach $295.8 million in August FY27 (compared to $134.1 million in August FY26), despite continued net outflows in portfolio investments.

Portfolio equity securities recorded a net outflow of $20.1 million, reflecting a 51.0% contraction in outflows compared to a net outflow of $41.0 million in August FY26.

Foreign public investment recovered strongly to record a net inflow of $61.9 million in August FY27 against a net outflow of $1.0 million in August FY26.

Driven by gains in direct private and public investments, total foreign investment in Pakistan expanded by 168.7% YoY to $357.7 million in August FY27, up from $133.1 million during the corresponding month of FY26.

On a full-year basis, net FDI for FY26 stood at $1,672.3 million, down 32.5% compared to $2,477.3 million in FY25.
