FBR extends income tax return filing deadline to October 31

October 16, 2025 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has further extended the filing of Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025, moving the deadline to October 31, 2025.

This decision, communicated via Circular No. 5 of 2025-26 IR-Operations (Income Tax), came in response to numerous requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations across the country.

Initially, the deadline for filing returns for Tax Year 2025 was September 30, 2025.

It was previously extended to October 15, 2025, through Circular No. 4 of 2025-26 IR-Operations, dated September 30, 2025.

The latest extension provides an additional two weeks for individuals and businesses to submit their income tax returns.

The circular, issued under the powers conferred by Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, reflects the FBR's willingness to accommodate taxpayers, recognizing the challenges that might have led to delays in compliance.

Sadaf Ihsan, Second Secretary IR-Operations, signed the circular on October 15th, 2025, officially confirming the new deadline.

Taxpayers are encouraged to utilize this extended period to ensure accurate and timely submission of their returns to avoid any penalties.

This extension is expected to provide much-needed relief to many, allowing ample time to gather necessary documentation and complete the filing process without undue haste.
