Duty cuts, tech upgrades planned under Tariff Policy 2025-30

June 04, 2026 (MLN): PM Shehbaz Sharif has identified achieving export-led development targets as the top priority of the government.

Furthermore, he directed the National Tariff Commission to adopt best global practices, including artificial intelligence and modern technology, to facilitate investors and industrialists.

Chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on the national economy and implementation of the National Tariff Policy, the Prime Minister said transparent and active performance of the National Tariff Commission is inevitable for the promotion of domestic industry, trade and investment.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior government officials.

The meeting was briefed on the National Tariff Policy 2025-30, under which tariffs will be reduced in phases across various sectors to achieve export-led growth targets, according to Radio Pakistan

Duties on reefer containers and semi-trailers are to be abolished to develop the logistics sector, while customs duties on specialized vehicles and machinery will be reduced to promote construction.

Customs duties on raw materials used in cancer drugs will also be eliminated to facilitate the pharmaceutical sector.
