Cotton arrivals drop by 33%

July 18, 2025 (MLN): Cotton arrivals in Pakistan fell by 33% to 297.7 thousand bales as of July 15, 2025, compared to 442 thousand bales during the same period last year, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA).

According to the data, cotton arrivals from Sindh province stood at 153 thousand bales, marking a sharp 53% year-over-year decline.

The sharp decline in cotton arrivals from Sindh is primarily linked to drier-than-usual weather conditions, with significantly lower rainfall compared to the long-term average, impacting crop growth.

Meanwhile, Punjab province, another key cotton-producing region, saw a 27% increase in arrivals, reaching 145 thousand bales, driven by better crop management and timely sowing.

Pakistan ranks among the top ten cotton-producing countries in the world, and cotton and textile products are key export sectors.

However, overall output remains below expectations, signaling the need for improved agricultural inputs and practices.
