Chinese delegation eyes housing investments in Pakistan

June 17, 2025 (MLN): To explore major investment opportunities in Pakistan’s housing sector, a high-level Chinese delegation led by Yao Yu, CEO of DongKai International Investment, met with Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada.

During the meeting, the delegation proposed the development of a Dragon Mart-style commercial hub, as per the press release issued.

The visiting group, comprising representatives from a consortium of construction and technology firms, engaged with senior officials during their visit.

These included Secretary Housing and Works Hamid Yaqub Sheikh, the CEO of the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation, and the Director General of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority.

During the meeting, Minister Pirzada highlighted the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China and reiterated the government’s focus on introducing innovation in housing.

He emphasized the potential of prefabricated and modular technologies to drive sustainability, reduce costs, and accelerate project timelines.

Yao Yu presented advanced housing models and construction methods and noted that the proposed Dragon Mart initiative could enhance bilateral trade, foster urban growth, boost SMEs, and create jobs.

Officials from FGEHA and PHAF also delivered presentations outlining potential areas for collaboration, including joint ventures and public-private partnerships.

They identified key development zones in Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
