China confirms Trump state visit

May 11, 2026 (MLN): Beijing has officially declared the dates for President Donald Trump's state visit, publicly green-lighting the first US presidential trip to China in nearly a decade, despite ongoing tensions over the Iran war.

Trump, who last visited China in 2017, will meet President Xi Jinping for a much-anticipated summit that had previously been rescheduled, according to Bloomberg.

The White House confirmed the summit will be held May 14–15. China's state news agency Xinhua reported that Trump will pay a state visit from May 13 to 15, citing a Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Xi's government had been cautious about proceeding with the visit until the Iran conflict now in its third month showed signs of settling, according to people familiar with the matter.

China had not previously announced or commented on the dates of Trump's earlier delayed visit in April, in line with its usual practice of announcing top-level meetings only days in advance for security reasons.

Trump and Iran have rejected each other's latest peace proposals as both sides work to maintain a fragile ceasefire.
