May 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has received a formal
invitation to join the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC)
as a Strategic Partner, a move that would grant the country expanded access to
a vast Commonwealth-wide network spanning trade, investment and business
collaboration across emerging and fast-growing markets.
The invitation came through a letter of appreciation
addressed to Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh from
Lord Marland of Odstock, CWEIC Chairman, following the Minister's participation
in the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit held recently in London, APP
reported.
Lord Marland commended the Minister's contribution to Summit
discussions and acknowledged Pakistan's growing role within the Commonwealth
business community.
The letter outlined Pakistan's economic strengths including its large domestic market, globally
connected diaspora, entrepreneurial ecosystem and competitive sectors such as
textiles, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, technology, financial services and
manufacturing as key reasons for
deepening engagement.
Beyond the strategic partnership, CWEIC expressed interest
in opening a Hub Office in Pakistan to promote inward investment, help
Pakistani businesses access new export markets and strengthen institutional
ties. The Council also floated the possibility of hosting a Commonwealth
Investment Summit in Pakistan to showcase the country's investment potential
and attract global business leaders.
Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh welcomed the recognition,
reiterating that under Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's leadership,
Pakistan is actively building an investment-friendly policy environment and
broadening its international economic partnerships.
The Board of Investment said it remains committed to working with CWEIC and other global partners to facilitate investment, promote priority sectors and establish Pakistan as a competitive and reliable destination for international business.
