June 17, 2026 (MLN): The federal budget for FY2026-27 has been designed as a relief-oriented package aimed at supporting the working class, industrial sector, exporters, construction industry, women, youth and low-income groups, while also expanding the tax net and maintaining economic growth, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiyani said on Wednesday.
During an online briefing held with Minister for Information
and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, he said the budget reflected the commitment
of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to provide relief to the public while
promoting sustainable economic development, as per APP reported.
He said the budget offered incentives for industry,
exporters and the construction sector, noting that the construction industry
played a significant role in employment generation and supported the growth of
allied sectors.
The minister said measures had also been introduced for
women, including relief on products related to women’s reproductive health
through the elimination of sales tax under the government’s “pink tax”
initiative.
He added that the budget included support for individuals
seeking home ownership despite limited financial means and featured a
comprehensive Prime Minister’s Youth Package.
According to Kiyani, Rs110bn has been allocated under the
package during the current year for agricultural financing and disbursements to
young people.
Responding to questions raised by citizens on social media
platforms, he also addressed concerns regarding the allocation for the Benazir
Income Support Programme in comparison with federal spending on education.
