BISP to introduce digital wallet payments in July

June 08, 2026 (MLN): Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Rubina Khalid, has declared that disbursements under BISP will be made through digital wallets from July this year.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, she said more than eight million women have been provided free mobile SIMs to facilitate the new payment system.

Rubina Khalid said transparency and accountability remain the top priorities of BISP.

She added that a re-certification system has been introduced to ensure that only deserving individuals benefit from the programme, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

She said BISP, Pakistan’s largest social protection programme, has been appreciated by several countries around the world.

She further said that more than ten million families are benefiting from the Benazir Kafalat Programme, while twelve million children are receiving stipends under Benazir Taleemi Wazaif.

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was launced by the Government of Pakistan in July 2008 and is the country's largest social protection and cash transfer programme.

The initiative provides financial assistance to vulnerable and low-income families, with payments primarily directed to women to promote their economic empowerment.

BISP also manages the Benazir Kafalat Programme and Benazir Taleemi Wazaif, which support household incomes and encourage children's school enrollment.

According to BISP, the programme operates nationwide and targets eligible households through the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER).
