June 17, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan is advancing towards an artificial intelligence-driven governance framework, with a new digital platform designed to improve transparency, efficiency, and coordination across federal ministries through real-time monitoring and integrated decision-making.

The AI-powered Prime Minister Office System (PMOS) was reviewed on Wednesday by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, alongside Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary IT Zarar Hashim Khan, Chairman Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) Sohail Munir, and other senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and relevant ministries.

During the briefing, officials from the Pakistan Digital Authority presented the key features of PMOS, explaining that the centralized platform would digitally connect all federal ministries with the Prime Minister’s Office, according to APP.

The system is designed to provide real-time oversight of tasks, projects, and milestones to strengthen accountability and operational efficiency.

Officials informed the meeting that directives issued by the Prime Minister’s Office would be transmitted instantly to relevant ministries and departments through the platform.

The system would also allow continuous tracking of progress and performance, enabling decision-makers to monitor the status of assignments and initiatives as they evolve.

The participants were further briefed on PMOS’ automated alert mechanism, which generates pop-up notifications for overdue tasks on the accounts of federal secretaries and other concerned officials, helping ensure timely implementation and follow-up of government directives.

The meeting also reviewed a sovereign AI-based GPT-powered research system developed by the Pakistan Digital Authority.

The tool has been designed to support internal government research by utilizing previous directives, decisions, and official orders, allowing faster access to institutional knowledge and facilitating informed decision-making.

According to the briefing, the GPT-powered system will function as a virtual assistant for government officers with an understanding of official procedures and workflows.

Through artificial intelligence, it will be able to assist in carrying out official assignments, supporting greater productivity, efficiency, and service delivery across government departments.

Cheema appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Digital Authority in developing the AI-powered platform and directed relevant stakeholders to further improve its functionality, usability, and operational effectiveness before broader implementation.

He said PMOS would play a significant role in implementing the National Digital Masterplan by improving inter-ministerial coordination and strengthening digital integration across government institutions.

The minister added that citizen-centric digital services being delivered through platforms such as the Asan Khidmat Markaz and other digital forums would be further strengthened through a connected government-wide digital ecosystem.

He also emphasized that technology-driven governance initiatives, including digital tax enforcement systems, would continue to expand to support a more efficient, transparent, and accountable public sector.
