236,128 tonnes import cargo handled at Port Qasim

Six ships MSC Al-Ghero, Maersk Atlanta, Hony Future, Chemroad Mega, Sky Ploeg and Kobe Star carrying Containers, Coal, Palm Oil, Phosphoric Acid and Steel Coil were allotted berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Multi-Purpose Terminal respectively during last 24 hours, said a report issued by Port Qasim Authority (PQA) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile three more ships, Mu Main Song, Argent Asler and Chemroute Sun carrying General Cargo and Palm Oil also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim during last 24 hours.

High side berth occupancy was reported at the port at seventy one percent on Tuesday where a total of twelve ships namely, MSC Al-Ghero, Maersk Atlanta, Kobe Star, Da Liang, Young Harmony, Union Explorer, Hony Future, Daphne, Sky Ploeg, Ejnan, Chemroad Mega and Glorious are currently occupying berths at load/offload Containers, Steel Coil, Project Cargo, Coal, Canola Seeds, Chemicals, LNG, Palm Oil and Diesel Oil.

A record cargo handling was achieved at the port on Tuesday where a cargo volume of 255,945 tonnes, comprising 236,128 tonnes import cargo and 19,817 tonnes export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 3,425 containers (TEUs), (2,382 TEUs imports and 1,043 TEUs exports) was handled at the port.

Three ships, Oil Tanker `Glorious' Bulk Cargo carrier `Young Hormony' and Gas carrier Ejnan sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships, General Cargo carrier Da Liang and Bulk Cargo carrier Union Explorer are expected to sail on same day in the afternoon.

Five ships, Celsius Miami, Spring Cosmos, Mu-Main, Ros Tanora and Lion-M carrying Chemicals, General Cargo, Coal, Palm Oil and Furnace oil are expected to take berths at EVTL, MW-1, MW-4, LCT and FOTCO respectively on Wednesday.

While four more ships Container ships Tucapel, Prosper, Suez Canal and General Cargo carrier BBC Nile are due to arrive at PQ on Thursday - APP
