Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to ceasefire after Istanbul talks

October 31, 2025 (MLN):  Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to continue their ceasefire following a fresh round of talks held in Istanbul, according to a joint statement released by Türkiye.

The discussions, held from October 25 to 30, brought together delegations from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Qatar with the aim of consolidating the ceasefire initially reached in Doha on October 18–19 under the mediation of Türkiye and Qatar.

The statement confirmed that all parties have agreed to maintain the ceasefire and to establish a monitoring and verification mechanism designed to ensure the continued maintenance of peace and to impose penalties on any party found violating the agreement.

Further modalities for the implementation of the ceasefire will be finalized during a meeting in Istanbul on November 6, 2025, the statement added.

As mediators, Türkiye and Qatar expressed appreciation for the “active contribution of both parties” and reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting both Afghanistan and Pakistan in pursuit of “lasting peace and stability” in the region.

The Istanbul meetings are seen as a significant step forward in efforts to reduce tensions and prevent cross-border hostilities, with regional stakeholders hopeful that the renewed commitment will pave the way for more comprehensive peace arrangements.
