Weekly SPI surges by 38.66% YoY

September 22, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.93% WoW during the week ended September 21, 2023, while the SPI surged by 38.66% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 281.77 compared to 279.18 on September 14, 2023, while the index was recorded at 203.21 a year ago, on September 22, 2022.

Out of 51 items, the average price of 22 items increased, 11 items decreased, and 18 items remained stable.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.05% and 1.27%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.05% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 1.27%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 34.28% and 41%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 38.27% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 34.28%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs3,774 per 50 kg bag which is 2.3% lower than last week’s price and 56.01% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs1,194 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.01% higher than the previous week and 15.17% higher than prices last year.
