Weekly SPI increases by 0.3%

Weekly inflation increases by 0.81%

October 13, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group inched up by 0.3% WoW during the week ended October 12, 2023, while the SPI increased by 38.28% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 282.86 compared to 282 on October 05, 2023, while the index was recorded at 204.55 a year ago, on October 13, 2022.

Out of 51 items, the average price of 17 items increased, 17 items decreased, and 17 items remained stable.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI across four quantiles increased ranging between 0.16% and 0.51%, while the quantile four recorded a decrease of 0.02%.

Both the lowest and highest income group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.25% each.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 34.33% and 39.88%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 36.64% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 34.33%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs3,800 per 50 kg bag which is 0.66% higher than last week’s price and 56.94% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs1,201 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.05% lower than the previous week and 16.87% higher than prices last year.
